Detroit is Number One

All you folks feeling sorry for Michigan and Detroit for being last in everything can relax a bit for Detroit has reached the pinnacle in at least one major educational measurement, 5.6% higher than its closest rival, Indianapolis.

And, whoever said that Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is having a major negative impact on Detroit, and that the city would soon become recognized as a city of chumps and losers (if it wasn't already,) should be ashamed. Ooops, I guess I am a bit ashamed of myself at that.

Well, not to be too far distracted from the story at hand, Detroit has muscled its way to the top of the heap for the distinction of being the city whose public schools have the highest dropout rate among the 50 largest school districts in America. More than three quarters (75.1%) of all students entering Detroit public schools as freshmen drop out before graduating.

And that, my friends, is something you can build on.
