Pending Bill In California Would Attack Traditional Family Structure in Schools
One of the biggest fears we parents have when we send our children off to public school is that the government can usurp parental desires in shaping the children's attitudes toward religion, morality, ethics, and politics.
Unfortunately for many (myself included) homeschooling and private schooling are not an option for me. I'm lucky in that my children attent a small public school where I know the teachers and the administration. I know the bus drivers, the janitors and the aides too. While the kids many times think this is a disadvantage, I sort of like it.)
So, from this rather safe hamlet I cannot help to be concerned about the way things are changing around us. We have three important national news items this past week or so where teachers have taken it upon themselves to persuade their students toward leftist ideology with liberal politicizing, a job that should be reserved for parents and not for the government's union member employees. The three recent news stories are here, here and here.
So, how surprised can we be to find out that California is pushing the envelope even farther into an area that clearly infringes on parents' needs to instruct their children on moral and ethical basics. From WorldNetDaily.
A traditional-values organization in California is warning the state's residents that a bill pending in the Legislature, if approved, could remove all references to gender in public schools – threatening even references to "mom" or "dad" in textbooks. This is an attempt by people in our government to take an even larger parental role in the raising of our children.
If the bill, SB 1437, were to become law, warns the Capitol Resource Institute, "it could potentially require gender-neutral bathrooms in our schools and all references to 'husband' and 'wife' or 'mom and dad' removed from school textbooks as the norm."
Sponsored by Democratic Sen. Sheila Kuehl – a lesbian actress best known for playing Zelda in "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" in the '60s – the legislation would add "gender" (actual or perceived) and "sexual orientation" to the law that prohibits California public schools from having textbooks, teaching materials, instruction or "school-sponsored activities" that reflect adversely upon people based on characteristics like race, creed and handicap.
Kind of scary, huh?

And, I believe, this may only be 'the tip of the iceberg' ...
